Mt Lewis Palm

The Mt Lewis palm, Archontophoenix purpurea, is one of the more sought-after and beautiful of the Archontophoenix family. Arguably looking at its best in part shade it will nevertheless thrive in full sun. This species is easily distinguishable from other its much more common relative the King Palm (Archontophoenix alexandrae) by its long, purple and slightly bulbous crownshaft, which can be almost red immediately after an old leaf base has fallen or been removed. A stunning palm to look at when well-sited and well-watered in part shade.
