Etrog Citron

The "father of the lemon" the Etrog citron (Citrus medica) is an ancient citrus with a long and fascinating history. Perhaps most famously associated with traditional observance of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

A vigorous growing plant that is free-flowering, producing fruit all year round. Bears highly fragrant, white flowers followed by the thick, knobbly-skinned fruit that vary in size and shape. The aromatic rind is quite often candied or made into a sour lemon pulp. Best grown in full sun where soils are suitably moist, reasonably fertile and free-draining. Needs some protection from heavy frosts.
