Australian Pitcher Plants (Cephalotus follicularis)
These plants feature delicate, small, fuzzy, cup-shaped pitchers arranged in a circular pattern. These plants are naturally found in the mossy wetlands of the southwestern coast of Australia, specifically in the vicinity of Albany.
Watering
Please keep my tray full with water, right throughout the year. I come from damp sandy areas. It’s okay if my tray gets dry for a day, but please try to keep me standing in water.
It’s best to just fill my tray, my special soil mix will give me what I need.
Light
Full to part sun. The more I can tan, the better my colours. If I don’t get enough light, my pitchers will stay green.
Where to Keep Me
I like mild to hot days and don’t mind cold. If you live in a very cold place please bring me inside for Winter and put me on a sunny windowsill.
Dormancy
Each year, like you, I need a break. As I can’t leave my pot, I rest over winter. Don’t worry, I may look like I am not doing much for months on end but I'll be back in spring, just keep watering me as normal.
Feeding
I will catch my own food, but feel free to drop something in my pitchers. I love flies, spiders and any other bugs.
Please do not use fertilisers on me as a lot will harm me more than they will help me.
Soil Recipe
I live in a mix of 5% sphagnum peat moss, 20% peat, 75% pumice. The reason I am in such a bog pot is it help to keep my roots at a more stable temperature. If you need to repot me, please do not use regular soil, I will not survive.
