Dewy Pine (Drosophyllum lusitanicum)

The Dewy Pine is indigenous to specific regions of Portugal, Spain, and Morocco and thrives in a Mediterranean climate with moderate rainy winters and scorching dry summers. These captivating plants release a peculiar honey fragrance to attract prey.

Watering

Please keep my tray full with water all the time, in Summer it is fine to let it go dry a day or two. In winter please keep if full always as I come from a Winter rainfall area.

Don't water me from above, just fill my tray, my special soil mix will give me what I need.

Light

Full to part sun. The more I sun I can get, the less I have to lean over to get it.

Where to Keep Me

I love a hot day and don’t mind cold, even really cold days are okay but no frost on me ever please. I can live outside or inside on a windowsill.

Dormancy

I may slow down when it’s colder but I grow year-round. Just continue to look after me as normal.

Feeding

I will catch my own food, but feel free to drop something on my leaves. I love flies, spiders and any other bugs. Please do not use fertilisers on me as a lot will harm me more than they will help me.

Soil Recipe

I live in a mix of peat moss (10%), pumice (30%), vermiculite (30%) and perlite (30%). My roots are very sensitive, please do not ever try to repot me as an adult as I will not survive.

When I arrive you will find I have a tiny peat pot than I am in, buried in the green pot you receive. Feel free to move me but keep my peat pot intact.

I cannot be replanted as an adult, my roots are very sensitive and I wont survive. best to pot me up into a big pot as soon as I arrive.

In time I will grow out my peat pot into the soil mix around me. Then I can happily live out my days in one spot. This is why you can only but small babies or my brothers and sisters.
