Pinguicula heterophylla - Mexican Butterwort

Pinguicula heterophylla is endemic to the mountainous regions of Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Michoacán, it represents an important early discovery in Pinguicula taxonomy. It was first documented by botanist Karl Theodor Hartweg and formally described by George Bentham in 1839, as the inaugural long-leaved species within the genus.

This species produces distinctive erect, elongated leaves during the growing season, adorned with delicate white-violet flowers, before entering dormancy by forming a protective bulbous structure beneath the soil surface.
