Sarracenia purpurea var. montana (Greenville, South Carolina, USA) - Mountain Purple Pitcher Plant

Sarracenia purpurea var. montana, commonly known as the Mountain Purple Pitcher Plant, is a rare high-elevation carnivorous species endemic to the southern Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. This specialized variant represents a distinct adaptation of the southern purple pitcher plant (S. purpurea subsp. venosa), having evolved to thrive in the unique conditions of mountain seepage bogs. Distinguished by its specialized alpine bog habitat and distinctive morphological characteristics, this species offers collectors an exceptional opportunity to cultivate a geographically and ecologically significant carnivorous plant with limited natural distribution.
