Traveller's Palm

The Traveller’s Palm is a unique and eye-catching plant known for its distinctive fan-like arrangement of large, paddle-shaped leaves. Although not a true palm, it has a similar tropical appearance and adds a structured, architectural element to indoor spaces. Originally from Madagascar, this species is uncommon in New Zealand and is a great option for collectors or anyone looking for something a little different. It can be grown outdoors in parts of Northland with suitable conditions, but it is also often kept as a striking indoor plant where its bold form can be appreciated year-round.

These are moderately fast growing and with the right care, they become a majestic focal point in any home.

Care:

Traveller’s Palms prefer a warm, bright spot with plenty of indirect light. They grow best in well-draining soil that stays lightly moist—avoid letting the soil dry out completely or become waterlogged. Indoors, they enjoy some humidity, so occasional misting can help, especially in dry environments. Wipe the leaves occasionally to keep them free of dust and give the plant space to grow, as the leaves will spread out over time.
