Trigger Plant (Stylidium graminifolium) Growing Instructions

Trigger Plant (Stylidium graminifolium)

Stylidium graminifolium, commonly known as the grass triggerplant, is a carnivorous plant with a wide geographic range that extends from Tasmania and Victoria to New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia.

Its unique features include glandular trichomes beneath its flowers, which are not only capable of capturing and digesting prey, but also absorbing nutrients from prey trapped in its sticky mucilage. This species, with its long, narrow, grass-like leaves and beautiful pink butterfly-shaped flowers measuring 15–90cm.

Watering

Only water me when my soil appears dry (approximately 1cm below the surface), then water until I'm damp. I don't like being over watered.

Light

As much direct sun as possible to help me grow quickly.

Dormancy

I may slow down when it’s colder but I grow year-round. Just continue to look after me as normal.

Where to Keep Me

Outdoors is best. I am evergreen.

Feeding

I will catch my own food, but feel free to drop something on my leaves. I love flies, spiders and any other bugs. Please do not use fertilisers on me as a lot will harm me more than they will help me.

Soil Recipe

My preferred soil mix is 50% potting soil and 50% sand.
