Distichous Fishtail Palm

Wallichia disticha – also known as the Distichous Fishtail Palm is a striking and uncommon species with neat, two-ranked fronds that really stand out.

The leaves form just two rows on either side of the trunk. A great chance to add something unusual to your palm collection

These are subtropical palms native to the foothills of the Himalayas, so they’re a bit tougher than they look. They’ll do best in a warm, sheltered spot with well-drained soil and regular watering. In mild North Island climates, they can be grown outside, but young plants will require frost protection in winter. In cooler areas, they’re perfect for pots that can be moved under cover during cold snaps or just kept indoors.

The plant is about 10cm tall.
