Yes, this is the fabulous Pandan plant (Pandanus amaryllifolius) whose leaves are used throughout Asia for cooking. It has fragrant leaves which are used widely for flavouring rice, savoury dishes and sweets in the many cuisines of Asia. And you can also use it as a natural food colouring. Imported frozen Pandan leaves are widely available in Asian grocery stores but fresh leaves are unheard of in NZ. Now you can grow your own!

Note, the Pandan plant is native to tropical Asia, so it doesn't like sustained cold. Many people in NZ grow it outside in a warm sheltered spot through summer, but invariably it stays in a pot so it can easily be moved back inside to spend winter under a sunny windowsill.
