Papaya 'Red Maradol'

This is a newly improved selection of the popular Red Maradol Papaya variety, which needs a lot of warmth to germinate and get growing but once established, grows well in NZ. Plants can set fruit quite low on the plant and ripen to a yellow-orange outer skin (red-orange flesh inside) 10 or more months from transplant. A very nutritious fruit averaging about 2kg, with the seeds also being edible.

Another bonus is that this cultivar is gynodioecious 'self-pollinating' meaning you only need one plant to get fruit. (Many other cultivars require a male and a female in order to pollinate).
