Pandanus

The pandan or screw pine family, Pandanaceae, includes about 1000 species in the genera Benstonea, Freycinetia, Martellidendron, Pandanus and Sararanga, of which Pandanus is by far the largest. Most grow in tropical regions from Africa to Asia and through the Pacific and form sparsely branching, palm-like trees or shrubs with strap-like leaves. They are closely related to cyclanths and vellozia.
