Elephant Ear Fig

Origin: 
The Ficus auriculata (previously known as Ficus roxburghii) originates from Asia, particularly regions around Nepal, South China and northern parts of Southeast Asia. This plant is part of the Moraceae family and is also known as 'Elephant's Ear Fig'.

Characteristics
The Ficus auriculata is a striking plant, recognisable by its large, round leaves that have a noticeable light green colour. This plant can grow significantly, up to 5 metres high and is characterised by the production of prominent, edible fruits. The flowers have a reduced form and are included inside a false fruit or syconium.

Care
The care of a Ficus auriculata requires attention, but is not overly complex. This plant grows best in partial shade and in fertile, well-drained soil. It has a preference for subtropical and tropical climatic conditions. Regular watering during the growing season is essential, whereas it requires limited water during the wintertime resting period. In general, this plant is fairly resistant to diseases and pests, as long as the care instructions are followed.
