Bright but indirect light is beneficial for Phoenix roebelenii. Although the plant can tolerate some degree of drought, it thrives best in well-drained soil and with regular watering. Just like in its original habitat, Phoenix roebelenii survives both in high humidity and in drier conditions. Generally hardy in most NZ conditions it's still best to avoid frosts especially when the plant is still young. When more mature and with a good amount of trunk on them, they toughen up very well.
